A Better Breed of Cat: Jaguar F-Type Roadster

Jaguar is in the process of revamping its image, As part of that, it will be reintroducing a manual transmission into select models. ¬†According to Autocar, global brand director Adrian Hallmark said that the all-new Jaguar F-Type roadster will be one of 12 recipients in the automaker’s portfolio to offer the manual gearbox over the course of the next year. All other Jaguar and Land Rover models will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission which replaces the current eight-speed variant. “Sports cars need a manual transmission for sports credibility,” Hallmark told Autocar. He went on to say that we shouldn’t expect a manual transmission in the XJ anytime soon though as “the XF is the biggest format we could move to for a manual.” Hallmark went onto say that Jaguar is currently investigating using manual transmissions that utilize at least six speeds. The all-new F-Type will hit the market with an eight-speed automatic transmission and your choice of a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 engine rated at 340-hp as well as a 380 hp variant of that same mill. As per usual, Jag’s 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 rated at 495 hp will be available in the F-Type as well. The all-new Jaguar F-Type doesn’t hit the market until 2013, but early reports have indicated that 2,000 people have already reserved one for themselves.
